Detox is often the first step in recovery. Zoe Behavioral Health is an outpatient program and doesn’t provide detox on site, but we coordinate medically supervised detox with trusted local providers and bring you into our outpatient program in Lake Forest as soon as you’re ready, so there’s no gap in care.

What detox is
What Is Detox?
Detox is the period when your body clears alcohol or drugs and adjusts to functioning without them. Withdrawal symptoms can range from uncomfortable to dangerous, depending on the substance and how long you’ve been using.
Detox treats withdrawal. It doesn’t treat the addiction itself, which is why continuing straight into treatment afterward matters so much.
Medical detox is especially important for
- Alcohol, where withdrawal can cause seizures or delirium tremens
- Benzodiazepines, which should never be stopped abruptly
- Opioids, including fentanyl and heroin, where withdrawal is intense and relapse risk is high

Does Zoe offer detox?

How long does detox take?
It depends on the substance and your history, but most medical detox lasts several days to about a week.
Do I need detox before outpatient rehab?
If you’re physically dependent on alcohol, benzodiazepines or opioids, medically supervised detox usually comes first. For many other substances, people start directly in outpatient care.
Is it safe to detox at home?
Stopping alcohol or benzodiazepines suddenly can be dangerous. Talk to a medical professional before stopping, and call 911 for seizures, confusion or hallucinations.
Does insurance cover detox?
Most health plans cover medically necessary detox and outpatient treatment. Verify your insurance for free.
What happens after detox?
You move into our PHP or IOP program in Lake Forest, with medication-assisted treatment where appropriate, so there’s no gap in support.
